The Kinetic roof for Jane's carousel

The goal of the project is to design a kinetic system on the roof of the Pavilion designed by Jean Nouvel. This Pavilion is for Jane's carousel and is now located next to the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.
1.The motion of the kinetic roof

Site: Dock street, Brooklyn, NY
Design Concept :
Rotational movement of Jane's Carousel.

Motion for open condition (Red)

Step 1. The kinetic roof of Jane's carousel has a hexagonal shape. Each part of the kinetic roof has 4 triangular shading devices. And the sliding bar can move along the rotation rail to control the incoming daylight.
Step 2. By the rotational motion of the sliding bar along the rail, four shading devices are overlapped because each shading device is attached to the sliding bar with different levels.

Step 3. When the sliding bar arrived in the end part of the rotation rail, all shading devices are overlapped together. Through this process, the amount of daylight entering the carousel can be controlled.
